About Me

I started my career at a start-up in a team of crazy smart engineers who were tasked with creating a new database engine that could outperform the competition while working with large sets of data. The competition was the upcoming companies of the time, namely, Oracle, Informix and others. This was more than two decades ago. This experience started my life long infatuation with data and concepts of data representation. and manipulation.

Most recently I was the chief architect for establishment of data warehouse and big data practice at one of the leading young companies in the recruitment and workplace science space in San Francisco. This was a great learning experience for me to play with some of the tools that are now common place, Hadoop, Talend and Tableau. Prior to that I architect-ed and oversaw multiple cloud deployments of very large size(s).

The purpose of this blog is to share my experiences. My goal is to help those who might be caught up in all hoopla around big data only to discover that it will not solve the problems that they are looking to solve. Many of the common business  problems can be solved by off-the-shelf products or cloud based services.

I look forward to all feedback (good or bad).  Connect with me on Google Plus or Twitter and welcome to my blog!
