Sharing results from data - A good thing?

Much has been written about techniques, technologies etc that can be used for big data management, analysis etc. But, sometimes  just publishing the findings from all the effort can be the killer app for big data. Below is a picture from a UN study that shows how hospital performance increased once their performance numbers were published. I can hear naysayers thinking of "Gaming" and other suitable synonyms but even if the increase in hospital performance is partially reflected in the chart below, the effort of publishing results is worth it.

The above is true for public health institutions but is probably true in private entities as well. Does anyone have a story that they can share about release of performance of a team or group that led to better performance (or vice versa)?
